The King of Fighters-i brings the KOF experience, from gameplay to art direction to the iPhone, iPad Touch, and iPad. The game features four modes of play: ”Team Battle” for classic KOF 3-on-3 battles, “Single Battle” for 1-on-1 fights, “Endless” mode for an endurance challenge with just one life, and “Training” mode where players can practice the Virtual Pad-based controls and learn combos.
With Game Center compatibility, players can share and compare their game completion level, rankings and achievements with friends and players from around the world. Players can do battle with friends in local wireless play via Bluetooth. Players can also exchange trading cards, view another player’s “My Card” (gamer profile cards), and send and receive versus battle replay data for even more interaction.
The roster has been sized down to 14 characters, but includes a majority of the classic fighters. One of these classics is Billy Kane, making his first appearance since KOF 2003. Extra characters and exclusive background stages will be available to download in the near future, which should expand the life of the game.
Various bonus content can be unlocked during gameplay and viewed within the game’s “Gallery” mode. Here players will find premium trading cards based on original SNK PLAYMORE illustrations, various art and rough sketches of KOF characters, KOF Team novel stories from the upcoming THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII and many more hidden treasures that fans can’t afford to miss! Bonus content can also be traded at any time via thein-game marketplace.
