About JAVELIN - http://dollarbinsofthefuture.com

Javelin is a band/production duo consisting of cousins George Langford and Tom Van Buskirk. They started working together in 2004, Providence, RI, and have long since moved operations to Brooklyn, NY.

In 2009, they released JAMZ N JEMZ, a collection of odds and ends that found its way around the internet with some vigor.  Next came two 12″ records for Thrill Jockey, a slew of remixes, and then the 2010 release of their debut album No Más (Luaka Bop).

2010 also saw Javelin tour extensively in the US and abroad, culminating in playing Lollapalooza and The Whitney Museum in the same month. Not surprisingly, Javelin have also become in demand re-mixers, putting their distinctive touch on tracks for Cee-Lo, Warpaint, Future Islands, Darwin Deez and a whole bunch of others.

Javelin released their country western songbook CANYON CANDY on Record Store Day in 2011. The EP was Inspired by tours through a classic western landscape dotted with surrealist geographic locales like the “Crater of Diamonds,” a conversation with Lucky Dragons which yielded the album’s title, and a desire to harness the manic energy of the road and redirect it in the opposite direction into (cough) syrupy slow, sometimes beautiful, cowboy songs.

This dissonance pervades the 10’’’s 13 songs.  This time around, Javelin’s beguiling production process on CANYON CANDY was created with a shed of implements: Jaw harp, harmonica, guitars, lots of samples of records, vocals, drum machines, synths that sound like crickets wind or UFOs… Says Tom Van Buskirk “when we were mastering at Masterdisk the engineer said one song sounded like The Band mixed with Li’l John.”
