Conversations with Austin residents invariably tend to veer onto the topic of music. And why shouldn’t it? Austinites are proud to live in the “Live Music Capital of the World,” and they’re usually eager to tell you about it, in as lavish detail as you’ll tolerate. A list of Austin music events would stretch on forever, and while getting locals to decide which one was the best, there’s no arguing which one everybody is talking about right now: the Austin City Limits Music Festival. As the 10th annual ACL gets going, we take a detailed look at the history of one of the most popular music events in the country and what fans can look forward to this year.
