Four weeks into the US Fall tour supporting their seventh album ‘Wasting Light,’ Foo Fighters stormed into the Forum with a two-night stay in Los Angeles. Over 17,000 fans were on their feet as they watched Dave Grohl and company perform a twenty-five song set list, spanning close to three hours. The night started with ‘Bridge Burning’ and ‘Rope,’ the first two tracks off the record released last spring. Fan interactions began early on as sing along tracks echoed throughout the Forum. Center stage, a catwalk ramp extended half way into the general admission audience, causing Grohl to run wildly with an electric guitar throughout the night. His agility and adrenaline fueled personality were the result of two stage slips, causing Grohl to poke fun at himself with the audience.
Eight songs in the set list were off ‘Wasting Light’. For those in attendance who’ve played the album religiously since April, listening to ‘Arlandria, Dear Rosemary’ and ‘Miss The Misery’ proved to be a special treat. Still, Foo Fighters managed to rock out with ‘The Pretender, Monkey Wrench’ and a thunderous sing along from the audience during ‘My Hero.’ Between songs, Grohl expressed the immense honor it was to perform at the Forum. Earlier this year, He attended Prince’s 21-night home stand at the Forum, stating it was easily the best show he had experienced. Following Grohl’s Forum tales, the rest of the band revealed their first venue experiences, with guitarist Chris Shiflett catching a Quiet Riot and White Snake show. Keyboardist Rami Jaffee attended a Rush show, and guitarist Pat Smear caught Rolling Stones with Stevie Wonder as the opening act.
Unlike other bands who take a few minutes backstage to recuperate and build anticipation for encore chants, Foo Fighters took a camera backstage and began holding fingers one by one indicating the amount of songs they would perform, causing the audience to cheer louder and louder as they counted after five. After a few minutes of tension, Grohl appeared in the middle of the Forum on an escalating platform with an acoustic guitar in hand. ‘Long Road To Ruin’ and ‘Best Of You’ became sing-along acts, resulting in the band to join Grohl on stage for the following five songs. The night closed with the timeless classic ‘Everlong,’ performed acoustically with fans participating during each chorus.
Foo Fighters will finished their North American tour next month in Boston, and then head over to Australia to wrap up the year. Wasting Light is currently available everywhere.
