Count on a night of riotous laughter and profanity-laced parodies when The Dan Band returns to L.A. Live’s CLUB NOKIA Friday, March 30, 2012. Tickets for this show are on sale now.
The Dan Band mouthpiece (and namesake) Dan Finnerty never planned on a career in music, let alone fronting a group that specializes in medleys of ’80s classics like “Gloria” by Laura Branigan and Toni Basil’s “Mickey” but after college he found himself in Los Angeles and this is where he met his wife, actress Kathy Najimy, and began playing his “diva” classics to small clubs with a four-piece band. As word of mouth spread, The Dan Band began attracting numerous celebrities to their shows, resulting in the group being cast in the popular comedy Old School, where they unleashed an expletive-heavy rendition of Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Finnerty has since appeared in Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal, as well as Starsky & Hutch and The Hangover as the pastel tuxedo-clad wedding singer dropping F-bombs into love ballads and flipping off sweet old grandpas. The Dan Band released its full-length debut, Dan Band Live, on the USA Side 1 Dummy label in April 2005. In the fall of the following year, the band issued a Christmas album entitled Ho.
In the summer of 2009, The Dan Band performed a monthly residency at Club Nokia and an Examiner review of a May 21, 2010 CLUB NOKIA show said, “The Dan Band are ingrained in the pop culture consciousness now, they deserve nothing less than musical supremacy…seeing them live at CLUB NOKIA in Los Angeles truly proved that…One reason why this is all so hilarious, beyond Dan’s dancing, is that he’s got an impeccably pristine vocal delivery. The man can carry a tune to the heavens and back, so when he says something dirty unexpectedly it’s impossible not to laugh.”
