Los Angeles based multi-instrumentalist and nostalgia-loving raconteur Hanni El-Khatib is excited to announce “The Highway Man Tour” his Spring 2012 tour across North America. The gritty musician and skateboarding aficionado has developed a sound that has one foot firmly planted in America’s musical past and another brazenly stomping into the realm of today and tomorrow’s rock and roll. Strong cues from blues, doo-wop and punk blare in songs with sentiments that traverse the line between playful aggression and contemplative yearning. El-Khatib also has the unique talent of taking big band and soul standards and reworking them in completely unexpected ways. His cover of Louis Armstrong’s “You Rascal You,” from his debut album Will The Guns Come Out on Innovative Leisure Records, caught the ears of NPR writers, who lauded the work as “a murderous threat suitable for singing along.”
El-Khatib has garnered a reputation for putting on a live show so visceral and wildly energetic that listeners have been riled into fits of aural exuberance. Past tour dates with indie heavyweights Florence and the Machine have helped El Khatib amass a devoted fanbase willing to shake, sweat and shout along to his every raucous note and word.
