Album Review by: Mary Grace McKernan
Saint Motel just released Voyeur, their debut full-length album. It’s hard to believe that this is a debut album. The songs take you on a roller coaster ride and the musicianship, vocals and lyrics sound as if they are from a well-seasoned veteran band. There are eleven tracks on the album and each song just gets better and better. Imagine reading a book or watching a movie that you never want to end, the story is so gripping and each chapter just delivers one more nuance that makes the story that much more exciting. Well, that’s what Voyeur does for the listener.
The album starts of with “Feed Me Now” and with a guitar solo, then the percussion and then A/J Jackson’s smooth vocals. The next track is the very original “Benny Goodman” and you are transported in time and it’s impossible to keep still. “Puzzle Pieces” is the third track on Voyeur and even if you don’t know all the words, you find yourself singing along to the piano riff. The fifth track on the album is called “1997”, and it’s about friends and it has all the qualities of a hit single, incredible lyrics…“well I’ve made so many new friends/they say they’ll be with me to the end/and it’s going to happen/ 1997”, fantastic harmonies and a catchy beat that just impulsively makes you hit the replay button when the song ends. Voyeur is an album you want to have NOW!
