FEATURE FILM TO DEBUT INTERNATIONALLY 2013
Three-time Grammy winner Skrillex has confirmed that he will be providing an original score (collaborating with Cliff Martinez, who’s most recent achievement was the stunning Drive) for Harmony Korine’s pending feature film Spring Breakers. The film will be screened internationally upon it’s release in 2013.
Skrillex, also known as Sonny Moore, immediately took to the task with the meticulous veracity he’s become known for, poring over a laptop and midi controller in hotel rooms across the globe, bouncing ideas off of collaborator Cliff Martinez and music supervisor Randall Poster, while synching menacing pads, stabs, and beats to what promises to be one of the most compelling films of 2013, if the buzz surrounding in Cannes this year is any indication.
Says Sonny, “I think this film is going to turn a lot of heads in many ways. It was a lot of fun to work with Harmony because he gave me the freedom and trust to do whatever I wanted. It was also super awesome having Cliff Martinez involved too. I think the work he did on Drive was spectacular and I was a big fan before I knew he was coming onto this project. Scoring to film is definitely a different approach to music making in the sense that it’s not so much about how the music sounds by itself as it is finding ways to compliment the vibe of the film. I had so much fun with this project and can’t wait for the final product.”
Spring Breakers, currently being edited in Los Angeles and starring James Franco, Gucci Mane, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine, tells the story of Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith, four college students who live in a boring dorm and crave adventure. The great American collegiate experience, Spring Break, holds promise of adventure but the students lack the finances to fund their vacation. A serendipitous encounter with white rapper “Alien” (James Franco) promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget. Spring Breakers is produced by Chris Hanley, Jordan Gertner, Charles-Marie Anthonioz and David Zander, and wrapped production 8 weeks ago in St Petersburg, FL.
