SHY HUNTERS UNVEIL VIDEO FOR “TIME BOMB” & ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES

Brooklyn duo Shy Hunters offer up the video for their first single “Time Bomb” and share upcoming New York dates which you can see below. The video acts as a proper extension of the track, the band showing their faces through sparkling shadows. The band describes the concept: “this video is one part homage to Phil Collins and two parts us; just putting on our art-armor to face the world.” The track introduces the band and their poignant ability to find a beautiful middle-ground between their influences and their ambitions. Emotionally stark, the song treads dark territory without losing instant accessibility for the casual listener.

At times driving and intense, with a nod to 80′s pop and dance, and at times dreamy and cool, Shy Hunters is modern pop through a Lynchian lens. The track recorded by Matt Boynton (Gang Gang Dance, MGMT), reveals the wide emotional palette and diverse sense of songwriting with which the band is equipped. In the production of “Time Bomb,” Shy Hunters used the studio to create a deeply layered, ever shifting environment that builds to a climax of interlocking Moog, guitar and vocals. The track begins at the bottom of a well; pulsing drums and swirling guitars maintain a low burn, while a whispered vocal brings us into an almost biblical vision of the future that could be interpreted either psychologically or literally. “We can go on and on forever over this scorched land” Street says, on a note of skewed optimism. The drums then snap to a dance beat, and vocals soar, punctuated by a repeated, structured lead that sounds like something Robert Fripp and Prince might have come up with together.

Sam Levin and Indigo Street met in 2009, occasionally performing together in a noise band, while primarily working as supporting musicians to various other artists. Sharing stages and recording studios, between the two of them, with Yoko Ono, Jolie Holland, Marc Ribot, Jeffery Lewis, Jim White, Gregory Saunier and R Stevie Moore. Gravitating toward each other through shared aesthetic, the pair took a tiny 9′x 9′ rehearsal space in 2010 and began working on what they expected to be a largely free form rock duo, only to find that the sound was pulling them in a different direction. They became increasingly interested in song writing, revisiting the classics – Prince, Kate Bush, Phil Collins In the Air Tonight – and looking for a way to merge the instant gratification of pop with the moodiness and mystery of some of their other inspirations such as Talk Talk’s later material and Miles Davis’ Live Evil.
