Stefano mika newton

As far as former American Idol contestants go, Stefano looks like he could follow in the footsteps of success stories like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. From his striking falsetto to his jazz-infused keyboard skills, he kept the audience at the iconic Sunset Strip venue on their toes— wondering what would come next.

New single, “Lemon Squeeze” demonstrates his ability to quickly change tempo and its catchy hook, “your love drip, drip summertime,” had us all convinced we need more lemonade in our lives.

An unexpected, reggae infused version of Nick Jonas’ “Jealous” was a big crowd pleaser that had the entire crowd dancing and clapping. He also teased the release of upcoming LP, Obsession, with its title track, showing promise of a pop-friendly, exciting album to come.

Before Stefano took over, Ukrainian pop singer Mika Newton revved up the crowd with her 2013 single “Magnets.” She might appear ethereal and understated in a long black and white dress, but her soaring voice and incredible range quickly engaged the crowd.

A relatable tune about falling in love, Newton starts sweet before gaining momentum in the chorus with, “I’m not afraid of falling / You gave me love to believe in.”

From there, Newton covered R&B tune “And I’m telling you” —from musical Dreamgirls and made popular by Jennifer Hudson—turning it into an acoustic gem delivered with effortless grace. She closed her set with sweet and sassy “Come out and play,” leaving the crowd energized and exhilarated for Stefano.
