Australian-born radio DJ Nina Las Vegas has been steadily building a name for herself and has now become one of the promising new artists of the nu-electronica scene. With countless DJ mixes and singles on Soundcloud, she has been a regular guest DJ on the BBC’s Diplo and Friends. In advance of two performances at Coachella (the last one being today, 4/22), Nina released her newest EP, EZY or Never. This five-track EP exemplifies why Nina has gained so much attention in recent years with its pop-infused indie EDM style.
EZY or Never opens with the partial title track, “EZY.” A deep house track with lots of pop danceability, “EZY” states in no uncertain terms why Nina is so popular currently. The next track, “Contagious (feat. Snappy Jit)” is probably the most interesting track of the three on EZY or Never, with party hype syncopation and MIA-style lyrics. Also highly danceable but with more of an indie flair, this track shows Nina’s musical range when it comes to EDM and her adaptability to many tastes and styles.
EZY or Never closes with the other half of its title, “Now or Never” A dreamy hybrid of styles, “Now or Never” vacillates between bass-heavy trap/juke and pop-driven house/hardcore beats. It’s an interesting melange of modern EDM styles and once again shows this artist’s musical range and creativity in putting different styles side by side.
Nina Las Vegas will be embarking on a small U.S. tour after her shows at Coachella, including dates in Palm Springs, Portland and San Francisco. Fans interested in hearing more of her work should visit her Soundcloud page or check out her DJ sets on Youtube.
