SOUNDTRACK OUT ON BIG BEAT/ATLANTIC RECORDS MARCH 12th
Six-time Grammy award winning DJ/Producer Skrillex has teamed up with Cliff Martinez, acclaimed composer behind the scores of Drive, Contagion, Traffic and more, to score Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers. The electro house driven results of the collaboration will be available as part of the film’s official soundtrack, to be released via Big Beat/Atlantic Records digitally on March 12th and physically March 19th. The music, a collection of party anthems that bely a darker underbelly, lends itself seamlessly to Korine’s bitingly surrealistic portrayal of the hedonistic and deranged path four bikini-clad college girls (Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine) take to secure their perfect spring break, assisted by a thugged-out amateur rapper played by a cornrowed and grill-wearing James Franco. The film also features rap star Gucci Mane and introduces the ATL Twins. Additionally, the soundtrack includes work from Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, Birdy Nam Nam, Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, Ellie Goulding and more. Spring Breakers hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles on March 15th and nationwide March 22nd.

Sitting in his kitchen in Portslade, Norman Cook is ruminating on his travels over the past year. The mega-gig he’s just announced at Brighton’s Falmer Stadium is special – “I was involved with the fight to get Falmer built – I took a petition to Downing Street, I went on the marches – so it’s a celebration of Brighton, it’s a celebration of getting the stadium, it’s celebration of my links with the Albion, it’s the icing on the cake for all of us” – but it’s just one in a litany of amazing-sounding shows that Cook has played recently, a faintly deranged global journey stopping at all points from the Big Brother house in Brazil to the Great Wall Of China.

Every now and then I’ll stumble on a movie that’s so unique, it’s like breath of fresh air from the stifling confines of mainstream cinema. It’s usually something bold, unapologetic and utterly fearless; a film that doesn’t need a big name or CG spaceships to keep my attention. One such recent discovery is The Gruesome Death of Tommy Pistol, a hilarious 3 vignette “meditation” on fame and the price people are willing to pay for stardom. The film won the award for Best Dark Comedy (2011) at the Polygrind Film Festival and has now been unleashed to the world courtesy of Breaking Glass Pictures.

(VG247) In 2005, Alex Garland wrote the first scripted for the film adaptation of Bungie’s most popular franchise. The movie has gone through many famous directors hands now and the time-lapse of a dying project seemed to meet its final death in 2007 when District 9 director Neill Blomkamp said the project would never be finished. On April 7, Frank O’Connor of Bungie said this: “we’re going to make a movie when the time is right”.
It still seems like it will never happen, but now this is some kind of chance studios looking into making a film with the fighting men and women of the UNSC. No writer has been hired for the reinvigorated project, but it doesn’t look like anything will be happening in the next year unless rights for the movie is green lit by Microsoft. With the success of Reach, it only makes sense to make a film now that Bungie has officially stopped working on the franchise. Look for some kind of Halo film before the end of the world.
The Dark of The Moon reminded me of Pink Floyd when I first heard it. Michael Bay’s next movie in the Transformers franchise has been announced by a few mishaps on Amazon.com and who ever bought the movie website domain. Before the film will see release, next summer, they plan on releasing books to get people hyped for the third Michael Bay vision of the Robots in Disguise. The books are entitled: Autobots Betrayed, Secret of the Autobots & Invasion of the Decepticons. Look for them to drop about two months before the movie’s release on May 17th. The movie is due for release on July 1st.
What does the title mean though? I did a little research on 2011′s lunar calendar and there is supposed to be a new moon on the day of the movie’s release. The Dark of the Moon usually symbolizes the last 3 days of the cycle of a new moon. From looking at the novel titles, a major Autobot will betray them for the Decepticons in order to overwhelm the Autobots with an invasion. What do you guys think the title means?
