If you think Lego games are for kids, think again. This franchise has to be one of the most clever puzzle games to exist, and developers at Traveller’s Tale are back again with Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7. Having played Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4, I was excited to see they would release the squeal.
This final title in the Harry Potter Lego series covers the last three Harry Potter books (with Deathly Hallows split into two parts mirroring the film releases): “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince,” ” Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1″, and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2.”
All of your favorite puzzles are back, like finding objects to throw into a cauldron to create a spell that could help or hinder you, and Hermine’s book shelf memory games. Of course, the most integral part of Harry Potter is the use of the wand. Each character is equipped with their own wand and spells catering to their specialties. Knowing which spells to cast against particular objects is key. And this time around, everyone gets a Patronus Animal: Hermine has her otter, and now Harry Potter can use an owl. A new feature, the “Specrespects” can now allow you to see hidden objects while your character is wearing lego inspired 3-D glasses. You still have the same goals and objectives like saving the Students in Peril, collecting Mini-Kits and gathering those Gold Bricks.
The familiar characters from the books and films are heavily incorporated throughout the game, and my favorite part (which I also thought to be most creative in the films) is the tale of the three brothers. The animation and darkness of the story is captured Lego-style which makes for a fun and unique way to enjoy the elements of the game. In all, Years 5-7 is a lot of fun to play either by yourself, or with a friend.
Lego Harry Potter Years 5-7 will be released November 11, 2011 and will be available on all platforms.
