Star Wars The Old Republic Release Today
Star Wars The Old Republic takes place in a fictional universe and will allow players to chose to be either a Jedi or a Sith to create a unique storyline in a journey into the darkness or the light of the Force.
Three hundred years after the previous Star Wars title, Knights of the Old Republic, SWTOR takes place about 3,500 years before the Star Wars films. Choosing to represent your part in the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire is crucial to character development as every decision carries it’s weight in your adventure. Morality options play an crucial role as siding with good or evil will further evolve your character, escalating it to different and higher classes. The dialogue options you chose will either open or permanently close future story lines, so making sure you are selecting the right path for your character is a vital task.
The stunning cinematics are what you’d almost expect from the team of LucasArts and BioWare. In some aspects of the game, the decision to make it a rail shooter was made in order for the player to focus and take full advantage of the thralling and vast universe before you. “[We wanted to]…capture the most cinematic moments that we can create. We want players to get in and feel like they’re in the movies. It’s about highly cinematic, controlled combat moments … very heroic, action-packed, exciting, visceral and dangerous encounters that’ll make you pee your pants” says Jake Neri, LucasArts producer.
SWTOR releases today and is available for PC gamers. In the grand scheme of MMORPG’s battles, can this latest title in the Star Wars franchise compete with the likes of World of Warcraft? That decision, young Padawan, is up to you.
