Dear Esther to be Released on Valentine’s Day for PC & MAC

“A deserted island…a lost man…memories of a fatal crash…a book written by a dying explorer.”

The teaser trailer released on January 17, 2012 for Dear Esther is nothing short of breathtakingly stunning. The Thechineseroom in collaboration with Robert Briscoe at Littlelostpoly came up with a non-linear story like no other, throwing the player into the vast atmosphere and gorgeous landscapes as you try to capture lose ends to a story you didn’t know existed.

Dear Esther takes place on a completely deserted island named Hebrides, thus embarking the player into a unique store of love, loss, guilt and redemption.  Monologue fragments are triggered when players traverse over specific areas of the game, and even then those precious pieces of narration are chosen at random.  While playing Dear Esther we are forced to recognize whether the answers we have sought out are real and tangible, or illusions of the island.   Slight clues can be found painted on the walls of caves in code, yet you are forced to internalize the information you’ve received as the voice-over narrations start to contradict what you are seeing.  You must come up with your own conclusions, disregarding what you have been told.

Who is Esther, and why did she bring you here?  Those questions may or may not be answered for you when Dear Esther releases to Windows PC and MAC users via Steampower on February 14, 2012.
