A Promised Decade Of Lego Star Wars™
Lucasfilm Ltd announced today at the New York Toy Fair that they will be renewing their license with LEGO® to ensure ten more years of adventures. First introduced in 1999, Lego produced sets of the popular theme Star Wars™ making this venture the first time in Lego® history that a story that did not belong to the toy company would be represented. Soon after, Lego Star Wars™ titles sparked interest in the video game community, which then paved the way to other popular releases in the series such as Batman, Harry Potter Years 1-4, 5-7, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
“We are delighted to have extended our long and very successful relationship with LEGO Group,” said Derek Stothard, Senior Director for Global Toys and Hardlines at Lucas Licensing. “Bringing together these two iconic global brands has created something special that is enjoyed by kids, families and fans everywhere.”
To date, the sales of the Star Wars™ video game titles over a seven year period has brought in over 30 million units.
