Syndicate 2012 “Re-Boot” Release
Originally developed in 1993 by Bullfrog Productions as a tactical shooter game, Starbreeze decided to completely change genre of the game into a FPS. Now, enter Syndicate, a world in 2029, a place where politicians no longer exist. Instead, each regional territory is governed by monstrous corporation companies called ‘syndicates.’ While citizens main priority is to obtain the know all tell all neuro chip and have it implanted to reap the providence their syndicate has to offer, what they don’t realize is that the only benefiting party is the syndicates themselves. The chips provide intel on each person’s behavior and insights which allows the citizens to be completely controlled. This boils over into a business war across the globe as each syndicate tries to enrich themselves in power and fight for the main goal: Total market dominance. Agents are deployed as the syndicate’s first line of defense. Agents are agile, bio-engineered individuals with the ability to hack their way into any territory.
Because everyone in the Syndicate world are digitally connected, players utilize the weaponized version of the Dart chip: DART 6 microchip technology to embark in a Digitalverse: Implants allow the player to slow down time, see through walls, or even breech the chip inside of an enemy’s skull. Different applications within the chip, such as the most important of them all, the DnDP link can cause your main target’s weapon to backfire, or you can force them to become your ally against their own until the hacking you’ve done becomes unsustainable and they terminate themselves.
“We are excited to finally reveal what we’ve been working on the past couple years,” says Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze Studios. “It’s been a great experience working with EA, and an amazing opportunity for us to use our expertise in the first person shooter and action genres to bring back, and reignite, the signature action/espionage gameplay of Syndicate.”
“Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today’s gamers as well as fans of the original. I’m sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic,” says Jeff Gamon, EA Partners Executive Producer. “Fans of the franchise will recognize many weapons and environments in the game, but in a whole new way. The game also provides a separate and deep 4-player co-op mode featuring missions from the original cult classic, which adds another layer of depth to the overall experience.”
Syndicate is a high velocity exploration into a Machiavellian realm that requires complete cooperation and quick reflexes. It releases on February 21, 2012 and will be available for Xbox 360®, PlayStation®3, and PC.
