Dreamworks Gets Need For Speed™ Film Rights
If you’re one of the thousands of fans that has played any of the Need For Speed™ games and wished to see it on the big screen, that wish just came true as DreamWorks announced that they have obtained the rights from EA to create an original film based on the series. Need For Speed™ is mostly known for it’s customizable and state of the art exotic cars, races that pushed the envelope, attractive female co-stars, heart pounding police chases, and an enthralling storyline which keeps players racing to the very end.
The screenplay was written by George Gatins (who was executive producer of Dreamworks’ “She’s Out of My League”) with a storyline that encompasses all Need For Speed™ titles, and will not focus on one specific storyline from any of the games. In a press release from EA, the film is described as a, “fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise.” Director Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is already attached as the role of director on IMDB.com. We can expect the Need For Speed™ film to head into theaters in 2014.
