Namco Bandai and New Smash Bros? Yes, Please!
Article By: Andrew Jones
Word on the Interwebs is that Katsuhiro Harada, producer of Tekken, is busy leading NAMCO Bandai on developing the Wii U Smash Bros for Nintendo.
While Harada hasn’t given a definitive answer as to whether we’ll see Tekken characters in the next Smash Bros or not, things sounded negative for a Panda vs. Pikachu fight…For now. NowGamer quoted Harada as saying, “We’re not really sure at this moment but when thinking of the player base who is playing Smash Bros, maybe Tekken characters is something they wouldn’t want, so I’ve been pulling back on that a bit.” Harada did mention characters from other games when discussing the Smash Bros project: “[R]ather than asking about Tales or Gundam, or some of our other franchises, the fans abroad saw Tekken as one of the key words and took off on that.”
Don’t expect the Wii U controller to play a big role in gameplay either. No more than a day ago, when discussing the upcoming TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 with Games Industry, Harada cited the Wii U’s signature GamePad as: “[P]retty distracting for a fighting game. So we’re thinking of making it useful as a way of having shortcuts [in Tekken Tag Tournament 2].”
Until Smash Bros (release date TBA), look forward to Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in September for Xbox 360® and PlayStation®3.
