Rockers Paramore recently unveiled their visually stunning music video for new single, ‘Now’, and they explained that Banksy served as a big inspiration for it.
Frontwoman Hayley Williams spoke to Billboard at this week’s SXSW festival in Texas about the offering and explained that seeing one of Banksy’s pieces spoke to the band so much that they decided to create the imagery around it:
“There’s this Banksy image of a man throwing a bouquet instead of a Molotov (pictured below) and we were just like, ‘That totally fits the song so much’. The song feels like it has a bit of violence to it but it’s not about that at all, it’s about embracing something different and looking forward to something you can’t see yet.”
She added: “When people watch the video I think it comes across clearly that love always wins in the end and that it’s always better to stop the cycle of bitterness and anger and try something different.”
New Show Booked at The Viper Room in West Hollywood, CA, on Tuesday, April 9
Los Angeles, CA, March 15, 2013 – After two months of touring throughout Canada, alternative rock band Ménage is set to perform at The Viper Room in West Hollywood on Tuesday, April 9, in support of the release of their new music video for their third single, “Promises,” off their self-titled debut album.
“The song is about hopes and letdowns, pain and delusion,” said co-vocalist bELA Ferreira. “‘Promises’ is one of the most sincere, intimate stories on the album. Playing it live; by the first chorus, looking into the audience, it is evident that the song isn’t just relevant to us. It is a song that clearly speaks to and about everyone’s story at one point or another of their lives.”
The video was directed by Brad Ragland, who also directed the band’s first two singles, “Bury Us Young” and “Tonight.” “Visually, the video tells a story through dance; of a girl who is lured with the promise of everything that is beautiful and light. She is seduced and enticed by the angel of death. When you believe in someone and put all your trust in him or her, and they betray you, innocence is killed in the process. We felt the story needed to be told. That is why we are not the stars of this video. The story itself is the star,” said bELA.
“Promises with its thunderous guitar and heartfelt emotions – “all that is left is your promises” – may be the best power rock ballad since Aerosmith’s Dream On. Yeah, it’s that memorable.” said freelance writer Ashley Jude Collie (Playboy, Celebrated Living, enRoute, Maclean’s).
Ménage is comprised of the Ferreira siblings, Gabriel, Fernando Basilio and bELA, who grew up between Toronto, Canada, and a small town in Portugal and Los Angeles, California. The dual-fronted band features Fernando on vocals and guitar, bELA on vocals and keyboards and Gabriel on drums.
Tickets for Ménage’s April 4 show at The Viper Room will be available at the door for $10. If you purchase a ticket for $12 from the band by emailing them at menagetheband@gmail.com, you will receive a ticket to the show and a digital copy of their self-titled debut album.
Guitar icon Slash has recorded a special song for the ‘Angry Birds’ game, it has been confirmed.
He admitted that he became an “instant fan” of the addictive game since it was originally released several years ago as a phone app so was thrilled to be asked to create a new theme that would play while the title screen is displayed on the new version of the game, ‘Angry Birds Space’.
Speaking about the “exciting” project, Slash explained that he was allowed to work on his ‘own take’ on the theme song: “When [creator] Rovio approached me about actually playing my own take on the Angry Birds theme, it went back and forth a few times between the actual Angry Birds theme note-for-note . . . and then they asked for something a little bit different.”
“I was really thrilled when I finally came up with a version that I really liked and they really liked. It’s been a lot of fun and I have to say pretty exciting – the whole process.”
Flame-haired songstress Hayley Williams has revealed that she recently teamed up with MAC cosmetics to produce a 4-piece collection (shown below) in her favourite shade, orange.
Known for her eye-catching hair colour, the ‘Now’ hitmaker has created an exciting line with the popular brand that includes a lipstick, eye shadow, blush/bronzer, and nail polish, and when asked why she chose the colour orange she explained that it “matches my soul”.
Speaking to People magazine about the collaboration, she confessed that she fell in love with MAC after the first use so it was an obvious partnership: “I didn’t wear makeup at all. Photographers would beg me to wear chapstick and I’d say no.”
“I went to a [store] and picked up orange eye shadow from MAC, that was the beginning of the end. It’s been key in making me feel like I have an onstage personality.”
Williams’ collection will be available from April 9 at http://www.maccosmetics.com.
Justin Bieber is due to perform tonight (March 8) at London’s O2 Arena despite a health scare on stage only a day previously.
As reported by Pressparty, the Canadian was rushed off stage last night (March 7) and given oxygen after complaining of breathing difficulties at the O2.
He was later taken to hospital and tweeted that he was “getting better” as time went by.
A rep has now confirmed to the Mirror that Bieber will indeed perform tonight at the same venue as scheduled after being discharged from hospital.
They said: “Justin has been released from the hospital after a check-up. And while he’s feeling a little under the weather, he’s planning on going ahead with tonight’s show.”
This latest incident comes only days after the singer was late arriving on stage at the same venue – prompting some fans and parents to leave the arena.
Ne-Yo has expressed his joy at reportedly having two songs on Beyoncé’s new album.
The tracklisting for the singer’s new record allegedly leaked onto the internet recently and it revealed that the US R&B star supposedly had two tracks on it.
Despite not knowing whether the leak is real or not, Ne-Yo told Digital Spy that he is pleased to see his work possibly on the record. He said:
“I saw that Beyoncé’s tracklisting just leaked and I’ve got a couple of joints on there, which is good news. I’m very happy about that.”
When asked if the tracklisting was real, Ne-Yo said: “I don’t know, I mean you never really can tell until the album comes out.”
Talking about writing for the album, which is expected to be released later this year, he added:
“I’ve heard some songs from the album so I knew what direction I should be going in. The last thing you want to do is write a song that makes no sense with the direction of the album, so she let me hear some stuff so I knew where to aim.”
International superstar Kanye West insists people overlook his music talent because they “don’t like Kanye in a kilt”.
The ‘Stronger’ rapper is disappointed after being voted seventh ‘Hottest MC in the Game’ by MTV’s Hip-Hop Brain Trust.
West – who is currently expecting a child with reality TV beauty Kim Kardashian – thinks he would have ranked higher if it was just his musical ability considered.
Speaking to US radio station Hot 97′s DJ Enuff, the star said: ”Yeah, number seven bothers me. To me, I feel like in order for them to put me as number seven, they had to bring up things they didn’t like. They didn’t like the ‘Cruel Summer’ album, and I’m like, ‘That’s just [a] compilation’.
He added: ”I don’t know, it’s definitely not based on a body of work. It possibly could just be like overall rap-MC-swag. What happens is, with these types of things… They don’t like ‘Givenchy Kanye,’ they don’t like Kanye in a kilt, they don’t like Kanye in a relationship.”
West revealed his favourite rappers, citing Lil Wayne as the best around.
He added: ”Yeah, I just think him and [Jay-Z] and [Eminem] and certain people are just the greatest rappers of all time.”
Country-pop beauty Taylor Swift has revealed that she turned to songwriting at school because she didn’t have many friends to confide in.
Speaking to the new issue of InStyle magazine, the ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ songstress explained that writing about her feelings became cathartic and helped with the loneliness she was feeling at the time:
“When you’re dealing with something like loneliness or confusion or rejection or frustration, those emotions are so jumbled up in your head. For me, the only way to condense them down into one thing is to write and three and a half minute song about it.”
Swift added that she went through a ‘tough time’ at school so setting her thoughts to music was her escape from that:
“I first started writing songs because I didn’t really have anyone else to talk to. As sad as that sounds, I was going through this really hard time at school where I didn’t have any friends. Songwriting for me just started out as therapy.”
Beyoncé has unveiled a new retro-style poster ahead of her hotly-anticipated ‘Mrs Carter Show’ World Tour.
Just hours after performing at the Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans on February 3, the international superstar announced on her website that she would be embarking on a world tour starting next month.
In a new Pepsi-sponsored poster, Beyoncé poses in four gorgeous shots rocking blonde hair and a pair of blue hotpants.
The beauty has previously appeared looking regal in her promotional shots for the upcoming tour, but decided to take inspiration from elsewhere for her new set of images.
Posting on her Facebook page, the star commented: “Pop Art inspires me to Live for NOW.”
The ‘Mrs Carter Show’ tour kicks off in Belgrade, Serbia on 15 April and will end the series of shows on August 3 in Brooklyn, New York.
Black Eyed Peas star Fergie is pregnant with her first child.
The 37-year-old songstress took to Twitter today to announce her and husband Josh Duhamel’s happy news.
In a post on the social networking, Fergie wrote: “Josh & Me & BABY makes three!!! #mylovelybabybump (sic).”
The star posted an accompanying picture of a superimposed childhood picture of herself and her actor beau.
Duhamel copied the same message on his Twitter page, writing: “Fergie and Me and BABY makes three. #MyLovelyBabyBump (sic).”
Fergie’s representative has since confirmed the news.
Fergie and Duhamel have never hidden their desire to have children. The couple – who married at the beginning of 2009 – spoke about wanting to start a family on Oprah’s Next Chapter at the end of last year.
Talking about the number of children they would like, Fergie revealed: “We negotiated that early on. Two is our number.”
Duhamel also gushed about his wife, adding she would make a fabulous mother: “My mother was a teacher. Both of her parents were teachers. We both had to work for what we got. We’re both Catholic,” he explained. “There were a lot of things that were really compatible between us. But at the end of the day, she’s just an amazing girl.”
