Supa Pirate Booty Hunt are Saving Lives with Music
Coming to you from Irvine California, Co-creator, Steven Sievers sat down with Ellenwood-EP to talk about Supa Pirate Booty Hunt and the amazing things they are doing with musicians to save lives!
Supa Pirate Booty Hunt is an animation series based on a Rock n Roll Pirate trying to be a super hero but his kryptonite is that he’s a pirate and needs to seek out treasures and booty and will stop at nothing to get it. The characters started off as drawings then jumped off the page and onto a live radio/internet show. The creators have also taken the characters out to the fields of Vans Warped Tour, If you made it out to the Irvine, CA Warped Tour you might have seen Daniel The Turtle roaming around and throwing down in the mosh pits down by the stages.
The high jinx of the two characters, Pirate Zac and Daniel The Turtle have made the animation series so popular, they have been able to join up forces with Music Saves Lives, www.musicsaveslives.org, a program that promotes young adults donating blood to save lives. The creators have been fortunate to be able to join forces with some of rocks heaviest hitters in creating public services announcements for Music Saves Lives. The band started working with Music Saves Lives after completing a skit with the band 303. The band had posted the skit to their Facebook page, what followed was the catalyst for future PSA’s and much more local support. Supa Pirate Booty Hunt has worked with such artists as Dave Mustaine from Megadeath among many others.
Whats in store for Supa Pirate Booty Hunt? Currently the creators are in the works for a few new projects including a CD of all the songs featured on the animation as well as possible talks for main stream television and films. Keep an eye on these rock star pirates cause they are going places!
In addition to be being an online sensation, the series is also being shown in your local Taco Bell and Denny’s Locations.

Darrell Wayne Opens the Airwaves for New and Old Artists
Based in Lake Tahoe, Ca lies KTHO Radio, “Local Talk, Classic Rock,” the motto of the station, owned and run by veteran Disk Jockey and Producer Darrell Wayne, or as he is most widely know, “The Insane Darrell Wayne.” Darrell is no stranger to radio and says he is excited to implement ideas and approaches gleaned from his past experiences into this KTHO format.
Darrell, who owns KTHO, one of the three radio stations in the Lake Tahoe area, has transformed it into an outlet for classic rock musicians to share their new music and have it exposed to the audience of today. Darrell has prior experience in radio working for (at least what was) Los Angeles’ premiere alternative rock station, KROQ. He began as a transmitter engineer and finished his 6 year stint as the stations Operations Manager. Darrell was well prepared to take on the challenge of implementing new and progressive ideas. He states, “If you ever worked in radio, you’ve sat at a table and talked about if you had a station what would you do differently and how would you make it better.”
Fast forward from his KROQ days to the present and KTHO. Darrell has created a format for this station embracing the classic artists that have graced the stations from years past and are still creating amazing music today. He explains that he’s providing a platform for these artists to play not only their classic, but their current songs. He opened up his station both broadcasting on air and over the internet (www.kthoradio.com) although he does embrace the classic rock, the station also plays a huge playlist of current artists as well. He states they have over 4500 songs in rotation and add new songs daily.
KTHO is also known for community awareness. Darrell spoke to me about how the he wanted to make KTHO a go to station for tourists and locals alike. The station promotes all the local events and on the sites webpage it has a community calendar to let people know so they can plan ahead. The site also features a gallery, advertising space, and information on what the station is currently playing (should you love the song but don’t know the name!)
Darrell is excited for the audience to experience the station, and says that being on the internet and social media sites is a great way to gain feed back from his audience and help keep the interaction of audience and DJ’s as prominent as it was when he was working at KROQ. Darrell states that he really does hold a fondness to the past formats when DJ’s and audiences interacted more and the audience had more feedback. He prides himself in recreating that atmosphere in KTHO. The website has a forum for feedback, meet the staff, contact the station and information on playlists and options to request songs. Having felt a sense of success Darrell is ready to expand his station to a larger audience and bringing the programs to further surrounding cities such as San Francisco.
Darrell has gained the nick name “the nicest man in radio” and after speaking with him I can only agree. He speaks with heartfelt conviction and belief that artists should have a forum for sharing music and no artist should be boxed-in based on when his or her music peaks or the generation that favors them. He is excited to bring this programming to California and can’t wait for more people to hear it. The concept of expanding playlists and creating a conversion of eras can only provide audiences with a more well rounded education of music and could quite possibly open up opportunities for past and present artists to collaborate in the future.
L.A. Husband/Wife Writing Team Go Noir In: PL.A.Y Noir Opening June 8th-July1st
Since its inception, noir has been a part of fiction and pop culture, but now it is definitely
back with a vengeance. Today noir can be seen in a variety of venues from noir’s early
roots in the Sherlock Holmes (TV series and films) and Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven, to
Frank Darabont’s new TNT TV series entitled L.A. Noir.
Anthony Mora and Ann Convery are a Silver Lake-based husband and wife writing team,
who have turned their sights to noir. Each have plays which will be featured as a part
of PL.A.Y Noir which will run June 8 – July 1 at The Actor’s Workout Studio in North
Hollywood, California.
Anthony Mora, whose works have been compared to Mamet, Pinter, LaBute and
Nabokov, published his first novel Bang! A Love Story in 1998. In 1999, Linda
Cardellini starred in a play adaptation of BANG! in Los Angeles and New York.
Anthony served as the playwright-in-residence at The Sidewalk Studio Theatre. The
Sidewalk produced Anthony’s play, P.O.P.: The Principles of Perfection, Bang! A Love
Story and Modern Love.
Ann Convery has had books published by Avon and HarperCollins and has been
published in various publications, including Los Angeles magazine. She is currently
finishing a non-fiction book and a book of short noir fiction set in the City of Angles.
A play previewing a film, in Anthony Mora’s Silencing Silas, a powerful businessman
hires a moonlighting cop and an aspiring actress to recover a mysterious briefcase
and “silence” Silas. But they have other ideas.
In Ann Convery’s Shoofly, a disgraced ex-cop is double-crossed again and again by a
haunted mystery woman who stole half a billion from her money-laundering lover.
Although, PL.A.Y Noir is the first foray for both into the genre, they are currently co-
writing a noir novel set in two time zones.
Punk Monkey Productions presents P.L.A.Y. Noir, which is billed as “an evening of five
short noir plays set in the City of Angels.” It runs from June 8 through July 1, 2012, on

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are bestowed annually by the BFCA to honor the finest in cinematic achievement. BFCA members are the primary source of information for today’s film going public. Eligible films were released in 2011. The accounting firm of CMM, LLP tallied the written ballots.
Since its inception in 1995, the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards has been a star-studded bellwether event of the movie awards season. Historically, the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards are the most accurate predictor of the Academy Award nominations. Last year, for example, all four of the acting category winners at the Oscars – Colin Firth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Melissa Leo – first accepted their awards in the same categories at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards. In all, 18 of the 20 actors nominated for Oscars were first Critics’ Choice Movie Awards nominees.
Final ballots for the 17th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards will be sent to BFCA members on January 8, 2012 with a deadline for returning final ballots on January 10, 2012. For more information about the show visit CriticsChoice.VH1.com, “Like” VH1 on Facebook, and follow @VH1 on Twitter and use the hashtag #CCMA to talk about the awards!

Charlie Sheen Returns to Canada: Bell Media Acquires Exclusive Canadian Rights to New Lionsgate Comedy Series ANGER MANAGEMENT
Bell Media confirmed tonight what comedic superstar Charlie Sheen told millions of Canadians in an exclusive on-air message earlier this evening on CTV: his new comedy series ANGER MANAGEMENT is coming to Canada. Bell Media has acquired the exclusive Canadian multi-platform rights to Sheen’s new half-hour program ANGER MANAGEMENT from Lionsgate-owned distributor Debmar-Mercury. Production of the new series begins in early 2012. Bell Media will announce its strategic multi-platform roll-out and scheduling of the series at a later date.
In the taped message, Sheen addressed Canadians directly. “You seem like the nicest people in the world,” he said. “But I know the truth. You’re holding in a lot of anger. Why else would you drink so much beer, put on shoes with sharp blades, and smack each other around with wooden sticks?”
** Media Note ** Download photos at bellmediapr.ca. For audio clips please contact Tonia Addisonat tonia.addison@bellmedia.ca .
Perhaps the most-anticipated comeback in television history, the former TWO AND A HALF MEN star makes his #winning return to scripted television in a new sitcom loosely based on the hit 2003 feature film of the same name. In the new series, an anger management therapist (Sheen), who may need more counseling than his patients, wreaks havoc on the lives of his patients through his unconventional methods.
“I chose ANGER MANAGEMENT because, while it might be a big stretch for me to play a guy with serious anger management issues, I think it is a great concept,” said Sheen.
“Charlie Sheen’s ANGER MANAGEMENT already has the television industry buzzing and it hasn’t even gone into production yet,” said Phil King, President, CTV Programming and Sports. “With the pedigree behind this production, we’re confident this program will deliver to both viewers and advertisers alike.”
“Charlie Sheen is a global brand name, and Bell Media is one of the first of many blue chip media companies with whom we will be partnering as we launch this show worldwide,” said Lionsgate President of Worldwide Television and Digital Distribution Jim Packer. “Bell Media immediately recognized the show’s longterm potential, and we’re delighted that Charlie will be entertaining audiences for years to come on CTV, Canada’s number one network.”
Canada becomes one of the first territories in the world to license ANGER MANAGEMENT, following the announcement in October that the series will air on FX in the U.S.
The licensing agreement was orchestrated by Lionsgate international television executives Peter Iaconoand Lawrence Szabo with Bell Media’s Mike Cosentino, Senior Vice-President, Programming CTV Networks.
From Lionsgate-owned distributor Debmar-Mercury, led by Co-Presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, Sheen also retains a significant ownership stake in the series. Production on the sitcom begins in early 2012 with comedy veteran writer-producer Bruce Helford (GEORGE LOPEZ, THE DREW CAREY SHOW) as executive producer and showrunner. It will be produced by Lionsgate Television, led by Television Group President Kevin Beggs and COO Sandra Stern; Joe Roth and Revolution Studios’ Vince Totino; Mark Burg’s production company, Evolution Management; and Ramon Estevez and Estevez Sheen Productions.
