Nicole Scherzinger on X Factor USA stint: “I wasn’t boring”

Nicole Scherzinger has hit back at people who criticised her performance as a judge on X Factor USA.

The singer was signed up to appear on the show’s inaugural series in 2011 but she only lasted a year in the role before being dumped alongside Paula Abdul and host Steve Jones.

Simon Cowell called her stint on the show “wishy-washy”, but speaking to Marie Claire, an embattled Scherzinger said that she disagrees. She said:

“I did a great job with my contestants. I still brought ratings to the damn show. Everybody was talking about it – that’s not a bad thing. I’m a very sincere and honest person, and if you think that’s boring you can turn off and watch something else.”

The former Pussycat Doll continued: “I’m not going to change just to try to fit in. I’m very experienced in my art, and in music, and in what we’re looking for. That ‘boring’ crap is hogwash. You try to do my job. And if you still think it’s boring, then check out my music videos on YouTube because that’s not boring.”

Paloma Faith on cracking the U.S. market: ‘Americans love my theatricality’

Songstress Paloma Faith has opened up about her desire and current attempt to crack America and has admitted that the country seems to understand her artistic appeal.

The ’30 Minute Love Affair’ hitmaker told Jon Hornbuckle that she’s preparing to release her album in the U.S. in November and has been working hard on promoting the record stateside:

“I am doing a lot of things in America at the moment, I’m trying to crack it over there. The album is coming out there next month. I’m not nervous about America, I don’t really get nervous about anything. I think you shouldn’t put too much pressure on yourself.”

Faith added that Americans ‘love her’ and she isn’t nervous about trying to make the transition from being a popular artist in the UK to become a well-known name in the USA: “I know people will make comparisons between me in America and how other people have gone down but I just did some gigs over there and all the reviews were amazing.”

“Americans love my theatricality; they don’t want someone that just stands there and sings, they like the entertainment of it all – the spectacle!”

Ed Sheeran on Taylor Swift: ‘I expected her to have a ‘douchebag pass’ but she was lovely’

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed that his preconceptions about well-known American recording artists were well and truly shattered when he met Taylor Swift because she turned out to be “the loveliest person that I’ve met”.

The ‘Lego House’ superstar, who recorded a duet with Swift for her new album ‘Red’, told SB.TV that there are certain traits he attributes with famous pop stars from the U.S. although he was pleasantly surprised to discover that Swift had none of them:

“Writing with Taylor Swift was cool, recording with her was cool. She’s like a really sound person. In England once you get to a certain point you kind of know everyone and everyone’s relatively humble and cool. But in America once you get to a certain level it’s kind of like you get a douchebag pass. Like there are certain artists who are just allowed to be douches.”

“Taylor Swift’s one of those people who is the biggest selling female artist in the world right now, like her last record sold just as much as Adele’s, which is pretty mental to think. When I first met her I expected her to be one of these artists that is kind of allowed to have a douchebag pass, but she was just like the loveliest person that I’ve met.”

Swift’s forthcoming new album will be released on October 22 and her collaboration with Sheeran, entitled ‘Everything Has Changed’, is confirmed to feature on it.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has been confirmed as a guest mentor on the US version of The Voice.

The punk-rock star will help out Christina Aguilera’s team of vocalists on the show’s third series.

The Associated Press reports that Armstrong said in a statement that his family were fans of the programme and that The Voice is “not moulding artists, it’s just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.”

Armstrong is the latest name to crop up in the US TV talent show stakes after Mariah Carey was confirmed to judge on American Idol.

Carey will fill one of the seats left by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, who both left the show in recent weeks.

Chart-topping vocalist Adam Lambert is currently in London preparing for his upcoming live shows with iconic rock outfit Queen and yesterday (June 21) he met up with one of the UK’s hottest boybands.

Lambert and ‘Chasing The Sun’ heartthrobs The Wanted were both at T4′s central studios on Thursday, June 21 and spent time “hanging” out together. Lambert tweeted:

“Hanging with @thewantedmusic at T4 studios yesterday! London Pop!!”

The ‘Never Close Our Eyes’ sensation also shared a photograph of himself posing with the five lads and they retweeted his message to their 683,000 followers.

Lambert stopped by The Graham Norton Show earlier this week and opened up about being asked to perform as the frontman of Queen, explaining:

“I am honoured. My big goal is not to stray too far from the original, people want to hear these iconic songs and to veer away too far would be sacrilege.”

‘Never Close Our Eyes’ hitmaker Adam Lambert has opened up about his ‘American Idol’ experience and revealed that while he was given a significant amount of support his music career is very much his own.

Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, the superstar explained that there are many misconceptions surrounding the talent show career path he decided to take, but he maintained control over his creativity and was very successful as a result of it:

“There was a lot of help involved, and there were a lot of songwriters involved, but I was making decisions: I like that song or I don’t like that song. I wasn’t being told what to do every step. I wasn’t being controlled in that manner on the show, either.”

“I’ve sung other people’s music all my life. It’s what I did on American Idol, and I think one of the things I was known for was making them my own.”

Lambert, who is currently in London, also spoke about the dedication of his fanbase and admitted that although he loves how devoted his followers are he can get freaked out by the things he reads, especially fan fiction:

“It was not an arousing experience,” he said of reading a sexual fan fiction piece about himself. “The one I read was a little creepy.”

‘Better Than I Know Myself’ sensation Adam Lambert has opened up about diva rumours, the career path that eventually found him fame and how he feels about being a public role model for the LGBT community in a new interview.

Speaking to London’s Metro newspaper, the hitmaker explained that the biggest misconception people seem to have of him is that he is “a diva” and indulges in extravagant backstage behaviour:

“People think I’m a diva, but I’m not. I’m pretty easy going. I just try to put on a good show. I’ve never asked for my dressing room to be repainted or for people to sort my M&Ms by colour. I’m happy with a cup of tea.”

Lambert was also asked if he feels a sense of responsibility to be a “figurehead” or spokesperson for the gay community because of the public voice he has found for himself and admitted that it’s great to be looked up to, but he believes that everyone can stand up for themselves and it’s inspiring when people “all want the same things”:

“If someone wants to look at me and say: ‘He’s a gay role model,’ I’m proud to wear that label. A lot of what I sing about is universal. The broader statement is it doesn’t really matter, we all want the same things.”

Adam Lambert used “darker, moodier” subject matter on ‘Trespassing’ to challenge expectations

Chart-topping hitmaker Adam Lambert has admitted that one of his main goals with his new album was to shatter people’s preconceptions of both him and his music.

Speaking to the Rolling Stone, the ‘Better Than I Know Myself’ superstar explained that penning tracks of a darker nature helped him not only to express his emotions, but to expose a different side of his personality and abilities as a musician and songwriter:

“When I first started the writing process for ‘Trespassing’, I was wanting to express some darker, moodier subject matter. And I did, and I held on to some of those songs and they ended up on the album. It was ‘out of the box’ for me.”

He recently became the first openly gay artist to debut at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 200 album chart and Lambert revealed that long talks with ‘Trespassing’ collaborator Pharrell Williams helped him to define the route he wanted to take with the record:

“We were talking about some kind of big picture, kind of philosophical views on things and life, and the music industry and just… being. And just being your own person and just sticking to your guns. And that’s how ‘Trespassing’ was born.”

Leona Lewis says ‘Glassheart’ will be edgy and will show new direction

Vocal superstar Leona Lewis has opened up about the progress of her forthcoming new album and revealed that it will be slightly edgier than her older material.

Speaking to London’s Metro newspaper, she explained that ‘Glassheart’ will feature some drum and bass sounds and was partly influenced by the 90s music she listened to growing up:

“At the moment I’m just finishing up my album so I’m hoping it will be out in the summer. I’ve got a track that’s got a bit of drum’n’bass at the end. It’s quite different to what I’ve had out before.”

“I’ve got a track that’s very 90s. It’s just different influences that I’ve had through my life growing up.”

Meanwhile, Lewis spent time over the weekend on the X Factor panel in London at the O2 Arena where she stepped in as a guest judge and tweeted a message to her followers to let them know she had a great time:

“So excited to be judging on Xfactor in London today! I can’t wait to see all the talent in my hometown! #XFactorUK”
